When I ran for York South-Weston City Councillor in 2022, my office at 2575 Eglinton Avenue West served as headquarters for a campaign that led to the near defeat of the longest-serving incumbent Toronto, a difference of fewer than 100 votes.
The election is long over, but the work continues. We've turned that campaign office into the York South-Weston Community Hub that on the on the one hand, is working to address urgent community needs:
- preventing evictions and illegal rent increases
- helping people apply for housing and income benefits they didn’t know existed
- assisting people in navigating a system that is complicated and inaccessible by design.
And on the other hand, building a movement to change that very system. We've helped hundreds of people, and mobilized them to become part of changing the very system that had failed them in the first place.
The election may be over, but that work is just as important - maybe even more important - than ever before. Help us continue this work by chipping in to support our community hub.
