It's time the Jane Street Bridge was constructed to reduce flooding in Rockcliffe-Smythe. Sign our petition.
One of the action items we took away from our emergency community meeting on flooding was creating a petition to request that the Jane Street Bridge be constructed by the end of Summer 2019. Sign and share with your neighbours. Here is the petition:
"Whereas the existing Jane Street Culvert over Black Creek (at Alliance Avenue) blocks water flow during storms and heavy rainfall and causes water to back up and contributes to the high risk of flooding along Cordella Avenue, Hilldale Road, Cliff Street, Louvain Street and Avon Avenue.
Whereas this problem has been recognized by Toronto Water and the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) for many years but action has yet to be taken.
Whereas Environmental Assessments related to such work have already been completed.
Whereas City Council (City of Toronto) has passed motion PW 28.6 in 2018 asking various departments to study feasibility of the Jane Street Bridge.
Whereas this project meets the criteria for the Federal Government’s National Disaster Mitigation Program (referenced in PW 28.6).
We the undersigned demand:
That the City of Toronto schedule construction of the Jane Street Bridge to be completed before the end of the summer of 2019.
That the City of Toronto commit to fully funding the project in its 2019 budget.
That the Federal Government and the local MP Ahmed Hussen, do everything in their power to reimburse the City of Toronto for part or all of the cost of this project through the National Disaster Mitigation Program.
That the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario, the Toronto Region Conservation Authority, and the Federal Government engage in good faith in a meaningful conversation with indigenous groups across the region and with the residents of York South-Weston around the issues of flood mitigation and stormwater management."
